Mayor Assures Rehabilitation of Howrah Market Traders within a month

Mayor Dipak Majumder on Sunday visited Howrah Market to assess the situation following the recent demolition of market structures by civic authorities. The visit comes amid concerns raised by traders over their livelihoods after the clearance drive.

During the inspection, the Mayor interacted with affected shopkeepers and reviewed the ground conditions. Addressing the media, he assured that the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) is taking all necessary steps to rehabilitate genuine license-holding traders at the earliest.

Mayor Majumder announced that within one month, the Municipal Corporation would construct proper market spaces and hand them over exclusively to traders holding valid licenses. He emphasized that the rehabilitation process would be transparent and aimed at restoring normal business activities without delay.

“The Corporation is committed to safeguarding the interests of lawful traders. Only genuine license holders will be provided permanent shops, and the work will be completed within the stipulated time,” the Mayor stated.

He further added that the demolition drive was undertaken as part of a planned effort to improve urban infrastructure, ensure better civic facilities, and bring order to the market area, while ensuring that eligible traders are not adversely affected.

The Mayor’s assurance has provided relief to many traders, who have been facing uncertainty since the demolition of the Howrah Market structures.
