Brown Sugar Seized in Mungiakami, Three Held

Mungiakami Police on Saturday achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing anti-narcotics drive by seizing a quantity of brown sugar and prohibited cough syrup during a naka checking operation.

Acting on a specific tip-off received by Officer-in-Charge Sonen Debbarma, police intercepted a vehicle without a registration number at the 41 Mile naka point on the Assam–Agartala National Highway. During a thorough search of the vehicle, brown sugar was recovered, cleverly concealed inside seven soap cases. A quantity of banned cough syrup was also seized from the vehicle.

Three persons travelling in the vehicle were detained in connection with the seizure.

Following the incident, Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer Rohan Kisan, along with DCM Sandip Debbarma, rushed to the spot and carried out a spot inspection of the operation.

Speaking to the media, SDPO Rohan Kisan said preliminary interrogation revealed that the contraband was being transported from Meghalaya to Tripura. He added that the involvement of a larger inter-state drug trafficking network cannot be ruled out. Police have initiated a detailed investigation and assured that strict legal action will be taken against all those involved.

Police officials stated that naka checking and special anti-drug operations will be further intensified to curb the illegal movement of narcotic substances across the state.
