Lok Sabha Begins Debate on Motion of Thanks to President’s Address

The Lok Sabha on Monday took up an 18-hour discussion on the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament. Union Minister and BJP MP Sarbananda Sonowal moved the motion, describing the President’s address as remarkable and visionary, outlining the government’s commitment to social justice, inclusive growth, and the goal of building a Viksit Bharat.

Mr. Sonowal said the address reflected the guiding principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas, adding that this was not merely a slogan but the foundation of the government’s functioning. He criticised the pre-2014 Congress-led government for policy paralysis, corruption, and delays in project execution, and said that India has witnessed rapid and all-round progress since the Narendra Modi government came to power.

Highlighting economic achievements, Mr. Sonowal said India has moved from being among the “fragile five” economies in 2014 to becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy, while remaining the fastest-growing major economy despite global challenges such as the pandemic, conflicts, and supply chain disruptions. He also noted that ₹44 lakh crore had been transferred directly to beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer schemes and claimed that 25 crore people had been lifted out of poverty.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya seconded the motion, stating that the Modi government has ensured corruption-free governance over the past 12 years and delivered welfare with dignity. He said the government has fulfilled public aspirations, empowered the youth, and witnessed a steady rise in its popularity and that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
