Jan 31, 2026
A tragic incident involving the unnatural death of a young couple has sent shockwaves across the Jatrabari police station area in South Paharpur Gram Panchayat under Gomura Para on late Thursday night.
According to sources, the bodies were discovered early Thursday morning near a small stream beside a bamboo grove on elevated land. As daylight broke, hundreds of locals gathered at the spot, creating a scene of shock and curiosity. Jatrabari police rushed to the location immediately after receiving information.
The deceased have been identified as Nisha Mallik (21) and Rakesh Mia (24), both residents of the Jamia Khamar area under the Matabari Assembly constituency in Udaipur subdivision. It was reported that Rakesh had been working at a salon in Rangamara Market under North Paharpur Gram Panchayat in the Dhanpur Assembly constituency for the past few months.
Police stated that the couple was found hanging from a small tree using thin ropes, while being tied together with a gamcha, remaining in close physical contact even in death. The unusual and heartbreaking scene left onlookers stunned.
Officer-in-Charge of Jatrabari Police Station, Siti Kantha Bardhan, confirmed that the bodies have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examination to Kathalia Social Health Centre. Alternative arrangements are being made for the autopsy of the female victim.
This is reportedly the first such incident of its kind in the Jatrabari police station area. Local residents expressed mixed reactions, with some suggesting that social and religious differences between the two may have created obstacles to marriage, possibly pushing the couple toward this extreme step. However, police have stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report and further investigation.
