AMC announces relocation of stray dogs from city

In compliance with the directives of the Supreme Court, the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to gradually relocate stray dogs from city streets to designated shelter homes. This was announced by Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder on Thursday after a meeting held at the AMC conference hall.

The meeting was attended by the Municipal Commissioner, officials from the Animal Resources Development Department, and corporators from various wards under the Agartala Municipal Corporation.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mayor Dipak Majumder stated that stray dogs in Agartala will be shifted to shelter homes in a phased manner. At these shelters, the dogs will be provided with proper care, birth control measures, medical treatment, maintenance, food, and security. He emphasized that the initiative aims to ensure humane and scientific management of stray dogs in the city.

The Mayor also highlighted the importance of launching public awareness campaigns in every ward regarding stray dogs, so that residents remain cautious and unnecessary conflicts between humans and animals can be avoided.

He further pointed out that incidents of dog bites frequently result in injuries to the general public, while stray dogs themselves often suffer from various diseases. To address these issues effectively, the municipal body has undertaken this initiative.
