Tripura to Use Drone Technology for Power System Maintenance: Ratan Lal Nath

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday announced that Tripura will soon introduce advanced drone technology for maintenance and fault detection in the state’s power distribution system. The initiative aims to improve efficiency, ensure quicker identification of technical issues, and strengthen overall power infrastructure.

The announcement was made during the launch of the e-cycle distribution programme for ASHA facilitators, jointly organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL), at the TSECL Corporate Office in Agartala.

In the first phase, 30 ASHA facilitators from West Tripura district were provided with e-cycles. Under the project, a total of 100 ASHA facilitators will benefit in phases, with an estimated project cost of Rs 36.99 crore.

Addressing the gathering, the Power Minister described ASHA facilitators as “health warriors” and praised their vital role in maternal care, child health, disease detection, and delivery of primary healthcare services in rural and remote areas. He said the e-cycles would make their work easier, faster, and more environment-friendly.

Highlighting other developments, Nath said electrification of the 271-kilometre broad-gauge railway line from Agartala to Churaibari has been completed, paving the way for faster train services. He also stressed the importance of renewable energy and electric mobility for future generations.

The minister further informed that under the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Yojana, 740 consumers in Tripura have already benefited, with bank loan support being provided to expand the scheme.

The programme was attended by senior officials from TSECL, the Health Department, and other concerned departments, along with ASHA facilitators and staff.
