Meghalaya Assembly Budget Session Scheduled from February 16 to 27

The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will hold its Budget Session from February 16 to 27, spanning 10 working days, Speaker Thomas A. Sangma announced on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is set to present the budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year on February 20. Three days have been allocated for private members’ business, while the remaining days will focus on government business.

Addressing concerns about time constraints during Assembly sessions, the Speaker said measures have been introduced to ensure smoother proceedings, with flexible sitting hours if required. On the day of voting on supplementary demands, the House will sit until 3 pm, though the schedule may be extended if necessary.

Dismissing speculation about any postponement, Sangma confirmed the session will proceed as scheduled, noting that the decision to start the Budget Session earlier followed government advice.
