Minister Not Driving Escort Vehicle; Investigation Sought Amid Social Media Rumours

A tragic road accident at Bishalgarh claimed the life of a former headmaster on Tuesday, prompting an outpouring of grief as well as misinformation on social media. The deceased has been identified as Amar Chand Chowdhury, a resident of the Purba Lakshmibil area.

The incident occurred at Lockdown Market on the Bishalgarh Bypass Road, where a vehicle from a minister’s escort convoy was allegedly involved in the accident. Chowdhury sustained critical injuries and was rushed for medical treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.

In the aftermath of the incident, rumours circulated on social media blaming the minister for the accident. However, there is no official confirmation that the minister was driving the escort vehicle or that he was present in the vehicle involved at the time of the accident.

Sources clarified that the vehicle was part of the escort detail and was being operated by authorised personnel. The minister later visited the injured victim at the hospital, a gesture described by officials as humanitarian concern rather than an admission of responsibility.

Authorities have emphasised that assumptions and unverified claims should be avoided, and have called for a proper and impartial investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances of the accident, including the identity of the driver and compliance with traffic regulations.
