Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Inaugurates Kharif Paddy Procurement

Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport and Tourism, Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday formally inaugurated the Kharif paddy procurement programme at Dharmanagar in North Tripura district, marking the official start of the state’s procurement drive for the season.

Highlighting the importance of farmers in the country’s development, the Minister said that the government remains committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests and ensuring fair prices for their produce. He stressed that timely procurement at Minimum Support Price is a key step towards strengthening the rural economy.

For the ongoing Kharif season, the state government has set a procurement target of 18,000 metric tonnes of paddy at an MSP of ₹2,369 per quintal. A total of 52 procurement centres have been made operational across Tripura to ensure smooth, transparent and farmer-friendly procurement.

The Minister also directed concerned departments to ensure prompt payments and efficient management at procurement centres, so that farmers do not face any inconvenience. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of cultivators and contribute to food security across the state.
