Nagaland Inaugurates First Drone School

Nagaland on Monday inaugurated its first-ever Drone School and Drone Centre of Excellence at the Nagaland GIS and Remote Sensing Centre in Kohima, marking a significant milestone in the State’s technological advancement. The facility was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio as part of the 77th Republic Day celebrations.

The state-of-the-art Drone School is a pioneering initiative of the State GIS and Remote Sensing Centre under the Planning and Transformation Department. It aims to equip the youth of Nagaland with advanced drone technology skills while promoting innovation-driven employment opportunities.

In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio described the initiative as a major step towards harnessing modern technology for governance, development, and efficient public service delivery. Commending the department for its efforts, he said the Drone School would serve as a hub for innovation and capacity building, enabling the transfer of technical knowledge to districts and interior areas and ensuring that the benefits of technology reach the last mile.

The Chief Minister further stated that the initiative would enhance Nagaland’s preparedness for future challenges and help position the State as a leader in the effective and responsible use of drone technology.

The Drone School will offer DGCA-compliant Remote Pilot Certificate courses, along with short-term non-DGCA programmes in FPV drone flying, drone repair and maintenance, and drone data analysis and mapping.
