Bank Strike Brings Services to a Standstill in Tripura

Along with the rest of the country, Tripura witnessed a nationwide bank strike on Tuesday, January 27, following a call given by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) along with several other banking organizations. The strike was organized to press for key demands, including the introduction of a five-day work week in the banking sector.

Due to the strike, most public sector banks across the state remained closed, leading to widespread inconvenience for customers.

The impact of the strike was felt more severely as it came after a series of consecutive holidays. Banks had already remained closed for few days owing to Saraswati Puja on Friday, the fourth Saturday, Sunday, and Republic Day on Monday. With the strike on Tuesday adding another day of closure, customers faced acute difficulties in accessing cash, clearing cheques, and completing other essential banking work.

Bank customers expressed frustration over the prolonged disruption, especially those dependent on public sector banks for daily financial transactions. Meanwhile, bank union leaders stated that the strike was necessary to draw attention to long-pending demands and to improve working conditions and service delivery in the banking sector.
