India celebrated its 77th Republic Day on Monday with grandeur at Kartavya Path in New Delhi, led by President Droupadi Murmu. The celebrations began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying homage to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial.
The President arrived in a ceremonial buggy along with the Chief Guests, President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The National Flag was unfurled, followed by the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute using 105 mm Light Field Guns. On the occasion, Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla was awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India’s highest peacetime gallantry award.
The Republic Day Parade highlighted a vibrant blend of India’s cultural diversity and military prowess. The theme of this year’s celebrations was “Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram” and “Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat.” Thirty tableaux from States, Union Territories, and Central Government ministries showcased the nation’s heritage, marked 150 years of the national song “Vande Mataram,” and reflected India’s growing self-reliance.
A key attraction was the tri-services tableau displaying replicas of major weapon systems used during Operation Sindoor, including BrahMos, Akash, the deep-strike Suryastra rocket system, and the Arjun Main Battle Tank.
The event concluded with an impressive flypast by 29 Indian Air Force aircraft, including Rafale, Su-30, MiG-29, Apache helicopters, and C-295 aircraft. More than 2,500 artists performed cultural programmes, while special guests from various fields attended the ceremony.
