ITBP Wins LG Cup Ice Hockey Championship in Kargil

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) won the 5th LG Cup Ice Hockey Championship after defeating the Ladakh Scouts of the Indian Army in a closely contested men’s final at the Biamathang Ice Hockey Ground on Friday.

The final went into extra time following an intense regulation period, with ITBP scoring the winning goal five minutes into the tie-breaker to secure the title.

The championship also featured speed skating events, while an exhibition curling match between teams from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh added to the overall excitement of the tournament.

Speaking at the concluding ceremony, Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta said that ice hockey is an integral part of Ladakh’s identity, deeply connected to its climate, geography and lifestyle. He praised the discipline, dedication and sportsmanship of the participating teams and reiterated the Union Territory administration’s commitment to promoting Ladakh as a major centre for winter sports.
