In a significant development in the sensational death case of delivery boy Prasenjit Sarkar, the Dharmanagar District and Sessions Court on Friday rejected the bail pleas of all five accused and ordered that they remain in judicial custody till January 22.
After detailed hearings on the bail applications filed by the accused, the court observed that there were no reasonable grounds at this stage to grant them bail. Following the order, all five accused were sent back to jail custody.
Senior advocate Debdas Bokshi, speaking to the media after the hearing, said that bail was first sought for three accused who were directly involved in the incident, but the court dismissed their pleas. Later, separate bail applications were filed for the remaining two accused, which were also rejected.
The death of Prasenjit Sarkar had sparked widespread outrage across the state, with citizens demanding swift justice. The court’s firm stand and repeated rejection of bail have brought a sense of relief to the victim’s family as well as the general public.
The matter is now scheduled for its next hearing on January 22, with the state closely watching the court’s next course of action.
