Amit Shah Launches National IED Data Management System
Jan 09, 2026
Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday virtually launched the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS), a major initiative aimed at strengthening India’s counter-terrorism and internal security framework.
Developed by the National Security Guard (NSG), NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital platform designed for the systematic collection, collation and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The system is expected to significantly improve inter-agency coordination and support investigations into terrorist incidents across the country.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Shah said the new platform would ensure the delivery of the right information at the right time and place, making counter-IED operations more effective. He noted that the system would be accessible to Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS), state police forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and would function as a two-way platform, allowing agencies to both access and contribute data.
The Home Minister said that while the Ministry of Home Affairs has generated vast amounts of data over the years, much of it has remained in silos. Efforts are now underway to integrate these data sources and develop advanced artificial intelligence-based tools for their analysis. He expressed confidence that NIDMS would accelerate this process and serve as a new protective shield against terrorism.
Mr. Shah described the launch of NIDMS as an important milestone in enhancing the country’s ability to investigate explosions and IED-related incidents and in making India safer from terrorist threats.
