BNP-Affiliated Leader Shot Dead in Dhaka’s Tejgaon Area

A leader of an organisation affiliated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was shot dead on Wednesday night in Dhaka’s Tejgaon area, while another man was injured, triggering protests and a strong law enforcement response.

The deceased has been identified as Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former general secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the Swechchhasebok Dal, the BNP’s volunteer wing. The injured, Abu Sufian, is the general secretary of the Karwan Bazar Van Owners’ Association.

According to police, the shooting took place around 8:40 pm in Tejturi Bazar, near the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex. Unidentified assailants opened fire on the two men, critically injuring Musabbir. He was rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Sufian was later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Confirming the incident, Additional Deputy Commissioner Fazlul Karim of Tejgaon Division said, “Two people were shot in the attack. An investigation has been launched to identify the attackers and determine the motive.”

Following the killing, angry protesters blocked the SAARC Fountain intersection, disrupting traffic. Law enforcement personnel, including the army and police, later intervened to disperse the demonstrators and reopen the road, although tensions remained high in the area.
