Assam Pushes Back 13 Illegal Entrants, Says CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that 13 foreign nationals who were attempting to enter India illegally were apprehended in the state and subsequently pushed back across the border.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sarma reiterated the Assam government’s firm stance against illegal immigration. He stated that the government is committed to ensuring what he described as the “rights” of illegal immigrants, including their return to their country of origin.

“Respecting these rights, we pushed back 13 immigrants to the other side of the border,” the Chief Minister said.

Several districts in Assam—Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri and South Salmara-Mankachar—share a 267.5-kilometre-long international border with Bangladesh, making the region vulnerable to illegal cross-border movement.
