A 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck central Assam in the early hours of Monday at around 4:17 a.m., causing panic among residents in several districts. According to reports, the epicentre of the tremor was located near Morigaon district at a depth of approximately 50 kilometres.
The earthquake was felt across parts of central Assam, including Morigaon and neighbouring districts, prompting many residents to rush out of their homes in fear. However, there have been no immediate reports of loss of life or damage to property.
Tremors were also experienced in neighbouring countries such as Bhutan, Nepal, and Bangladesh. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, while officials have urged people to remain calm.
