CM Dr Manik Saha inaugurates 69th National School Games Yogasana Event

Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha inaugurated the Under-17 Boys Yogasana Competition of the 69th National School Games 2025–26 at the Netaji Subhas Regional Coaching Centre (NSRCC) in Agartala on Saturday.

The event has been jointly organized by the Tripura School Sports Board, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the School Games Federation of India (SGFI).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, the Chief Minister said that yogasana — a great Indian tradition — unites young talents from every part of the country, showcasing India’s cultural strength, physical fitness, and mental discipline. He called the occasion a matter of pride for Tripura, stating that such events inspire the next generation with values of discipline, self-control, and excellence.

Dr. Saha expressed his gratitude to the School Games Federation of India for entrusting Tripura with hosting the event. He noted that this national-level competition marks a proud and historic chapter in the state’s sports journey. He welcomed the participants, coaches, and officials arriving from across India and emphasized that yogasana promotes harmony between body, mind, and spirit, developing both physical capability and mental resilience.

Highlighting yoga’s global recognition, the Chief Minister said that since the United Nations declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014, yoga has gained worldwide acceptance — thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative. He described yoga as India’s priceless gift to humanity. Around 350 young athletes from 35 states are participating in the event, which he believes will help shape future champions at both national and international levels.

He also remarked that the state government remains deeply committed to promoting sports and yoga. Sports, he said, play a crucial role in the holistic development of children by instilling discipline, perseverance, responsibility, and patriotism.

Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Tinku Roy, delivering the welcome address, said that hosting a national-level competition in Tripura is a great honor and reflects the government’s strong commitment toward sports development and infrastructure growth. He expressed confidence that Tripura’s participants will deliver outstanding performances.
