Ratan Lal Nath Lays Foundation for Tripura’s First Super ECBC Green Building
Jan 03, 2026
Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday laid the foundation stone of Tripura’s first Super ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code) compliant building at the Banamalipur Power House Complex, marking a major milestone in the state’s journey towards sustainable and energy-efficient infrastructure.
The foundation-laying ceremony was held in the presence of Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee and Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumder. The four-storey office building is designed to consume 30 to 40 per cent less electricity than conventional structures and will be equipped with rooftop solar power, enabling it to become nearly power-neutral.
Emphasising smart design, the building will maximise natural light and ventilation while integrating advanced energy-saving technologies to ensure comfort without wastage. The offices of the State Designated Agency (SDA), Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) will function from the premises.
With this project, Tripura becomes the first state in the Northeast to initiate a Super ECBC building, underlining its leadership in energy conservation. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months and is envisioned as a model of responsible development for future generations.
