BCCI Asks KKR to Release Mustafizur Rahman Ahead of IPL 2026

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their squad ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

KKR had secured the services of the 30-year-old left-arm pacer for ₹9.20 crore at the players’ auction held last month, following an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals. His base price was ₹2 crore.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that KKR will be allowed to name a replacement player if required.

Pressure had been mounting on the franchise regarding Rahman’s participation in the upcoming season amid recent developments in Bangladesh, including the killing of a Hindu youth.

Mustafizur Rahman has been a regular in the IPL since 2016, featuring in eight editions of the tournament. He missed only the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
