SG Pipers continued their impressive start to the Women’s Hero Hockey India League with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over JSW Soorma Hockey Club in Ranchi on Wednesday, registering their second consecutive win to remain at the top of the points table.
Captain Navneet Kaur proved to be the difference-maker, scoring the decisive goal in the fourth minute with a brilliant solo effort. After intercepting a pass in her own half, Navneet surged forward, dribbled past two defenders near the circle and calmly slotted home to give the Pipers an early lead.
The early strike set the tone for a tightly contested encounter. JSW Soorma Hockey Club responded with sustained attacking pressure, but the SG Pipers’ defence remained disciplined and well-organised, repeatedly denying space and clearing danger efficiently.
Soorma earned their first penalty corner in the second quarter but failed to convert. Another opportunity late in the half also went begging due to a poor trap, allowing the Pipers to head into the break with a deserved 1–0 advantage.
After halftime, JSW Soorma came out aggressively in search of an equaliser, testing the Pipers’ defence throughout the third quarter. However, the table-toppers stood firm, soaking up pressure with resolute defending.
The fourth quarter followed a similar pattern, with Soorma earning two more penalty corners but failing to capitalise. SG Pipers also had chances to extend their lead, including back-to-back penalty corners and a one-on-one opportunity for Navneet Kaur, which was well saved by goalkeeper Savita.
Despite a late push from JSW Soorma, SG Pipers held on to secure a narrow but deserved 1–0 victory, maintaining their perfect record with two wins from two matches.
