Doppler Weather Radar to Boost Tripura’s Climate Resilience
Dec 31, 2025
Tripura marked a significant advancement in weather monitoring on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Government of Tripura exchanged land lease documents for the installation of a state-of-the-art Doppler Weather Radar. The signing ceremony was held at the TIFT Conference Room in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
The initiative, led by IMD Director General of Meteorology Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, will enable real-time, high-resolution tracking of cyclones, heavy rainfall, and severe weather events — enhancing safety not only in Tripura but across neighbouring Northeastern states.
Additionally, three Automated Weather Stations (AWS) were handed over to IMD for integration into the national network, further strengthening flood forecasting, water management, and early warning systems.
