Erigaisi Wins Bronze at World Blitz Chess Championship

Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi claimed the bronze medal at the World Blitz Chess Championship in Doha after losing in the semifinals to Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov on Tuesday. The 22-year-old went down 2.5–0.5 in the semifinal clash, ending his bid for the title.

Erigaisi had been in impressive form throughout the tournament and had defeated Abdusattorov earlier in the competition, raising hopes of a place in the final. However, the Uzbek grandmaster produced a strong performance in the knockout stage to advance.

In the other semifinal, defending champion Magnus Carlsen overcame American Fabiano Caruana 3–1 to set up a final showdown with Abdusattorov.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Erigaisi on his achievement, noting that it followed his recent bronze medal at the FIDE Rapid Chess Championship. In a social media post, the Prime Minister praised Erigaisi’s skill, patience and passion, saying his success continues to inspire young players.
