Assam Rifles, Customs Bust Major Cigarette Smuggling Operation in Tripura

In a significant crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Customs officials, seized a large consignment of foreign cigarettes on Monday at Chakma Ghat, Teliamura, in Tripura’s Khowai district.

The targeted operation involved a vehicle bearing registration number TR 01 AP 1717, which, upon thorough inspection, was found carrying 65 cartons of foreign cigarettes, totaling 6.5 lakh sticks. The seized consignment is estimated to have an international market value of Rs 65 lakh.

One individual, Giashuddin, son of Maynul Haque from Village Baitakhal Basti, Patharkandi, Karimganj, Assam, was apprehended at the scene. Both the seized goods and the accused have been handed over to Customs authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Assam Rifles, working closely with other enforcement agencies, emphasized that the operation reinforces its commitment to the government’s “Nasha Mukt Tripura” initiative and its ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
