Manipur’s Untapped Potential Highlighted: Governor


Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said the state has vast untapped potential in agriculture and horticulture, traditional crafts, sports, and eco-tourism. He was speaking at the Sports Meet cum 92nd Anniversary of the Mao Students’ Union held at Punanamei in Senapati district on Sunday.

The Governor said organising programmes during the festive season helps strengthen community participation, intergenerational bonding, and social unity. He added that the Manipur government is committed to unlocking the state’s potential through focused development programmes, improved infrastructure, better road connectivity, enhanced public services, and sustainable livelihood opportunities aligned with local aspirations.

Highlighting the importance of sports, Bhalla said sports instil discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and respect—values essential for leadership and nation-building. The event, organised under the theme “Empowering the Future through Sports,” marked the establishment of the Mao Students’ Union in 1933 and its more than nine decades of service. The Governor also unveiled a commemorative monolith on the occasion.
