PM Calls on States to Boost Manufacturing, Skills and Services for Viksit Bharat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged States to strengthen manufacturing, improve Ease of Doing Business, and focus on making India a global leader in services to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat. He said that the National Manufacturing Mission will be launched soon and asked States to prioritise it by developing infrastructure capable of attracting global companies.

Addressing the fifth National Conference of Chief Secretaries in New Delhi, the Prime Minister highlighted India’s strong demographic advantage, noting that nearly 70 per cent of the population is of working age. He said this presents a historic opportunity to accelerate economic growth if supported by effective reforms and skill development.

Mr Modi emphasised that quality must be the cornerstone of governance, manufacturing, and service delivery. He said the “Made in India” label should represent excellence, zero defects, and minimal environmental impact. He also called for identifying 100 products for domestic manufacturing to reduce import dependence.

Highlighting employment opportunities for youth, the Prime Minister said tourism can play a major role and urged States to develop at least one world-class tourist destination. He also stressed the importance of aligning India’s sports ecosystem with global standards as the country prepares to host the 2036 Olympics.

The Prime Minister further underlined the need to move towards high-value agriculture, boost exports, digitise ancient manuscripts using technology and AI, and strengthen capacity building across States. He concluded by asking States to prepare 10-year action plans with clear milestones, using technology for regular monitoring and implementation.
