Indian Grandmasters R Praggnanandhaa and Anish Giri guided Alpine SG Pipers to their maiden Global Chess League (GCL) Season 3 title, defeating defending champions Triveni Continental Kings in the finals held in Mumbai on Tuesday.
Alpine SG Pipers dominated the two-match final, winning 4–2 in the first match and 4.5–1.5 in the second to seal the championship. Alireza Firouzja set the tone early by defeating Fabiano Caruana, while Anish Giri produced a standout performance against Wei Yi in the opening encounter.
In the second match, Praggnanandhaa delivered a crucial victory over Vidit Gujrathi in a sharp 35-move tactical game. Giri continued his fine form, winning both his games with the Black pieces, and was named the Most Valuable Player of the finals.
