ISRO Launches US BlueBird Block-2 Satellite Successfully
Dec 24, 2025
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Wednesday successfully launched the US communication satellite BlueBird Block-2 using its heavy-lift rocket LVM3-M6 from the Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The launch took place at 8:55 AM IST, and the satellite was placed into its intended orbit about 15 minutes after liftoff.
ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan described the mission as a major achievement, noting that BlueBird Block-2 is the heaviest satellite ever launched from Indian soil by an Indian rocket. He confirmed that the satellite was injected into orbit with high precision.
BlueBird Block-2, developed by US-based AST SpaceMobile, is part of a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation designed to provide direct-to-mobile connectivity, enabling 4G and 5G voice calls, video calls, messaging, and data services worldwide.
The mission was carried out under a commercial agreement between NewSpace India Limited (NSIL)—ISRO’s commercial arm—and AST SpaceMobile. The LVM3-M6 flight marks the sixth operational mission of the LVM3 rocket and continues ISRO’s strong launch record, which includes successful missions such as Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3.
