Police Seize Cannabis worth Rs 15 Lakh


Continuing its intensified crackdown on drug trafficking, Ambassa Police on Saturday seized a large consignment of cannabis from a goods vehicle during a naka checking operation, while the driver managed to flee the scene.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team led by Second Officer-in-Charge Joy Thapa set up a checkpoint at Betbagan area. During the operation, a goods vehicle bearing registration number TR-01-AP-1631 was intercepted for inspection. As police began searching the vehicle, the driver took advantage of the situation and escaped.

A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 79 packets of dry cannabis, estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 15 lakh.

Speaking to the media, Second O/C Joy Thapa said that police had prior information regarding the transportation of narcotics through the area. He confirmed that a case has been registered and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver.
