Dec 20, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated two National Highway projects worth around ₹3,200 crore at Ranaghat in Nadia district, West Bengal. He inaugurated the 66.7 km four-laning of the Barajaguli-Krishnanagar section of NH-34 and laid the foundation for the 17.6 km four-laning of the Barasat-Barajaguli section in North 24 Parganas.
The projects aim to connect Kolkata and Siliguri, reduce travel time by about two hours, boost economic growth, and promote tourism.
Addressing a Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha from Kolkata over the phone, Modi accused the Trinamool Congress-led state government of corruption, nepotism, and obstructing development. Dense fog at the venue prevented his helicopter from landing, forcing him to return to Kolkata airport.
