Tripura to Launch Pulse Polio Drive on December 21

Tripura will observe National Immunization Day on Sunday, December 21, as part of the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme targeting children under five.

NHM Mission Director Saju Waheed A on Saturday in a press conference said that although India has remained polio-free for 14 years, recent polio cases in neighboring countries raise concerns about its possible re-emergence. He emphasized that the drive is crucial to safeguard India’s polio-free status.

Under the programme, every child aged 0–5 will receive two drops of oral polio vaccine at schools, Anganwadi centres, hospitals, and other booths. The state aims to cover 3,40,874 children through 3,409 booths, supported by 13,636 vaccinators and 682 supervising officials.

Children who miss the December 21 drive will be reached door-to-door on December 22–23 by ASHA workers and health staff.
