Assam Cabinet Appoints Blind Cricket Star Simu Das as Physical Instructor, Greenlights Key Development Projects

The Assam Cabinet has approved the appointment of Simu Das, a member of the Indian team that clinched the Women’s T20 Blind World Cup, as a physical instructor under the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
Hailing from Nagaon district, Das was instrumental in India’s victory in Colombo, scoring 86 runs and taking a crucial wicket in the final against Nepal, earning the Player of the Match award for her all-round performance.
Besides the appointment, the Cabinet sanctioned several major initiatives: Ammonia-Urea Project: Land allotment approved; Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone on December 21. Bodoland Territorial Council: Release of Rs 250 crore under the Priority Development Fund (Rural) for 2025–26. Biodiversity Conservation: Kumari Beel (270 ha) and Dhamar Beel (337 ha) in Goalpara district declared as Proposed Reserved Forests. CRPF Expansion: Transfer of 607 bighas of land at Kareng Chapori in Dhemaji district for a new Group Centre. Mission Basundhara: Land allotment approved for 308 families.
