Dec 18, 2025
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday said that every individual possesses inherent talent, which must be nurtured through perseverance, care, hard work, and continuous effort. He made this remark while inaugurating the third foundation day celebration of Agartala Government Dental College at Muktadhara Auditorium.
The Chief Minister described the establishment of the state’s only government dental college as a historic milestone, fulfilling a long-standing dream of the people of Tripura. He said that within a short span of time, the institution has emerged as a significant centre for dental education, treatment, and healthcare services in the state.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the earthquake-resistant renovation and restoration work of the old IGM Hospital building. He later participated in the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the new buildings of Agartala Government Dental College and IGM Hospital.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha said the dental college began its academic journey in 2023 and has been progressing steadily due to the proactive initiatives of the state government and the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that students from Tripura are now receiving quality dental education within the state, while residents are benefitting from advanced dental healthcare services.
Recalling past experiences, the Chief Minister said that since the formation of the present government in 2018, significant strides have been made in the education and healthcare sectors. He emphasized that no previous government had taken such initiatives to establish a professional medical institution within such a short timeframe. Considering public demand, students’ future prospects, and the need for a robust healthcare system, the state government successfully launched the dental college.
Dr. Saha informed that the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course started in the 2023–24 academic session with 50 seats, which has now been increased to 63. He added that the Tripura government remains committed to infrastructure development and renovation projects, ensuring that the historic importance of the old IGM Hospital building is preserved while modern upgrades are carried out. He stressed the importance of completing all construction and renovation work within the stipulated timeline.
Highlighting the significance of foundation day celebrations, the Chief Minister said such occasions are a matter of pride for students, faculty members, and the entire institution. However, maintaining the institution’s dignity and reputation is a collective responsibility. Constructive activities, positive thinking, and dedication from students and teachers alike are essential for taking the college to greater heights.
Addressing the students, Dr. Saha said that discrimination has no place in medical service, and healthcare must be accessible to all. He emphasized the importance of compassion and service-oriented thinking among medical professionals, noting that doctors bear immense responsibility toward society. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring equitable healthcare, education, and legal services for all sections of society.
He further stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura is steadily moving towards building a “New Tripura.”
