PM Modi Conferred with ‘Order of Oman’ During Landmark Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was today conferred with the prestigious Order of Oman by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik at the Royal Palace in Muscat, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to strengthening India-Oman relations and his visionary leadership.

The conferment coincides with the celebration of 70 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries, marking a milestone in their Strategic Partnership. PM Modi dedicated the honour to the long-standing friendship between India and Oman, describing it as a tribute to the warmth and affection shared between the peoples of both nations.

During the visit, India and Oman also signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aimed at enhancing bilateral trade, ensuring fair market access, and promoting labour mobility for Indian workers while respecting Oman’s employment policies. The agreement was signed by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and his Omani counterpart Qais Al Yousef, in the presence of PM Modi and the Sultan.

This is Oman’s second Free Trade Agreement in 20 years, reflecting the strategic importance it attaches to its partnership with India. The CEPA is expected to boost economic opportunities, create jobs, and strengthen business ties between the two countries. In addition, the two nations signed MoUs in the fields of maritime heritage, education, agriculture, and millet cultivation.

PM Modi and Sultan Haitham held comprehensive discussions on a wide range of issues, including defence, security, trade and investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people ties, as well as regional and global matters. The meetings were held in both one-on-one and delegation-level formats.
