The Union Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has approved the Rs 451-crore Matabari Tourist Circuit Project, a major initiative aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure in Tripura, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced on Thursday.

The ambitious project includes 21 tourism-related initiatives, with Rs 267.5 crore funded by the Ministry of DoNER. The remaining amount will be mobilised through the Tripura State Government, the Ministry of Tourism, and Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).

Expressing his gratitude to Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and the state Tourism Department, Dr. Saha highlighted that the project is part of a broader vision to transform Tripura’s tourism sector. “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tripura is witnessing steady and transformative development, with tourism emerging as a key driver of economic growth and employment generation,” he said.

The Matabari Tourist Circuit Project is expected to boost the region’s appeal to tourists, improve infrastructure, and create new employment opportunities, further positioning Tripura as a prominent destination in the northeastern tourism map.
