North Tripura District Police on Thursday arrested three persons in connection with the death of delivery boy Prasenjit Sarkar, registered under Case No. 122/2025, a senior police official said.
The accused—Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangita Bhattacharjee, and Sourav Bhattacharjee—were detained early in the morning from Karimganj district of Assam. Police confirmed that the trio will be produced before the District Court, where remand will be sought for further investigation.
According to a senior police official said the arrests mark an important development in the probe and assured that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined. Residents of Dharmanagar have been urged to maintain peace and cooperate with the investigation.
“We are committed to ensuring justice for Prasenjit Sarkar. People should remain cautious, as some elements are attempting to exploit the situation. We request the public to have faith in the police,” the police official said.
Prasenjit Sarkar, a young delivery boy, allegedly died by suicide after being physically assaulted at his workplace. Family members have alleged that the assault caused severe mental trauma, which led him to take the extreme step.
The incident triggered widespread public outrage, with protests held across the region and social media campaigns demanding justice. Sarkar’s family filed a formal complaint with the police on December 13, seeking strict action against those responsible.
The case has drawn attention to issues of workplace harassment and mental health. Police said the investigation is ongoing and assured that further action will be taken based on evidence.
