Cachar District Imposes Prohibitory Orders Along India–Bangladesh Border
Dec 17, 2025
The administration of Assam’s Cachar district has imposed prohibitory orders along the India–Bangladesh border to curb illegal movement and maintain law and order, according to an official release issued on Wednesday.
The restrictions were enforced in sensitive border areas amid apprehensions of possible movement of extremist elements and unauthorised cross-border activities that could threaten peace and stability in the region. District Magistrate Mridul Yadav invoked powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and issued the order on Tuesday.
Under the order, movement of individuals has been prohibited from sunset to sunrise within a one-kilometre belt along the international border. Night-time movement on the River Surma and along its high banks within Indian territory has also been banned.
The administration has further imposed strict controls on boating and fishing activities on the Surma river. Fishing will be permitted only for local residents and strictly for personal consumption, subject to prior permission from the Circle Officer, Katigorah, and compliance with lease conditions.
