PM Modi, King Abdullah Call for Deeper India–Jordan Economic Ties
Dec 16, 2025
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and King Abdullah II of Jordan jointly addressed the India–Jordan Business Forum in Amman on today, outlining an ambitious roadmap to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The forum brought together leading business representatives and high-level delegations from both sides, with participation from traditional sectors such as fertilizers and textiles, as well as emerging areas including renewable energy, information technology, health, and water management.
Welcoming Prime Minister Modi, King Abdullah described the forum as an important platform to promote partnerships and joint investments. He highlighted Jordan’s competitive strengths in sectors such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, ICT, energy, mining, tourism, advanced manufacturing, and logistics. Emphasizing Jordan’s strategic location and free trade agreements, the king said the two nations have the potential to build an economic corridor linking South Asia with the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, and encouraged Indian companies to use Jordan as a regional hub under the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor.
Prime Minister Modi underlined the unique and trust-based nature of India–Jordan relations, combining historical ties with future economic opportunities. He noted that India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner and urged Indian businesses to take advantage of access to global markets, including the United States and Canada, through Jordan. Recalling ancient trade routes that once connected Gujarat to Europe via Petra, he said reviving such links could shape shared future prosperity.
Several memoranda of understanding between Indian and Jordanian trade bodies are expected to be signed during the forum. Following the event, Prime Minister Modi visited the Jordan Museum with Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah. He will next travel to Ethiopia and Oman as part of his three-nation tour.
