North Tripura police have cracked an interstate drug trafficking network with the arrest of three women and the seizure of approximately 44,000 yaba tablets, officials said on Monday.
The arrests followed a tip-off, prompting a targeted operation led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar and Dharmanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mina Debbarma. The women were caught red-handed with the contraband, estimated to be worth over Rs 2.5 crore on the black market.
The accused Afia Begum and Ankuri Bibi from Kakraban, Udaipur, and Mafia Begum from Sonamura were allegedly involved in transporting narcotics across the state using covert methods. A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the network.
North Tripura Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai reaffirmed the district police’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking, vowing intensified operations to curb the menace of narcotics in the region.
