Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Monday officially opened Cho La and Dok La, two strategically significant border destinations, for tourists under the Bharat Ranbhoomi Darshan initiative.
The programme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Tourism, aims to promote border tourism while strengthening infrastructure and improving livelihoods in remote border villages.
Addressing the occasion, Tamang said the Sikkim government is committed to the vision of “developing the last village first”, in line with the Government of India’s Vibrant Villages Programme, which is driving rapid development in border areas. He said that with the support of the central government, the Indian Army and the state Tourism Department, Cho La and Dok La have now been opened to visitors.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Government of India, the Indian Army and the Tourism Department for their continued support and assured that infrastructure development in the region would continue. He also thanked the Indian Army for organising the Supercar Rally and appreciated the efforts of GOC Mr Rathore and his team.
The opening of Cho La and Dok La for tourism is expected to boost border tourism, improve connectivity and contribute to the overall development of Sikkim’s frontier regions.
