BHAY: The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery Offers an Engaging Take on Paranormal Investigation
Dec 14, 2025
BHAY – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery, inspired by the book Ghost Hunter Gaurav Tiwari: The Life and Legacy of India’s Foremost Paranormal Investigator by Abhirup Dhar and the Indian Paranormal Society, presents an intriguing and unconventional paranormal thriller.
The series stands out for its unique subject matter, chronicling the life and work of India’s most well-known paranormal investigator. Arshad Syed’s screenplay moves back and forth in time but remains engaging and easy to follow, while his conversational dialogues add to the realism of the narrative.
Director Robbie Grewal keeps the pacing tight, with the eight-episode series maintaining a controlled runtime. The opening episode, running close to 50 minutes, leaves a strong impression as it explores Gaurav Tiwari’s entry into the paranormal world and his first major case. The revelation that a case from nearly five years earlier may be linked to Gaurav’s untimely death adds a compelling layer of mystery and keeps viewers invested. The finale further sustains interest and hints at the possibility of a sequel.
However, the show falls short in delivering consistent scares. With the exception of the Bruno and Bachuaa storyline, the supernatural elements lack the intended impact. The ghosts, whether encountered in houses, graveyards, or other settings, appear more tacky than terrifying, reducing the overall horror quotient. While Grewal succeeds in creating an eerie atmosphere in certain moments, the series does not always manage to send a chill down the spine.
The subplot involving Gaurav’s participation in a reality show is intriguing, though it could have benefited from clearer explanations, particularly regarding his continued involvement despite a breach of trust by the show’s management. Additionally, a series with such mass appeal might have gained more traction with stronger promotion.
Overall, BHAY – The Gaurav Tiwari Mystery remains a watchable paranormal thriller with a distinctive premise, even if it doesn’t fully capitalize on its horror potential.
