Boxing Nationals Rescheduled to January amid Pollution Curbs
Dec 11, 2025
The Elite National Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships have been rescheduled to January 4–10, 2026, following government-mandated pollution control measures. The event, originally set for December 31, 2025 to January 6, 2026, will still be held at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) announced on Wednesday.
The BFI said the decision was taken in view of pollution-control directives currently in force until December 31, 2025, prompting organisers to shift the championship to a safer window.
The development comes after the Supreme Court, on November 19, asked the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to consider postponing open-air sports competitions in Delhi-NCR scheduled for November and December due to hazardous pollution levels. The Court also directed universities, colleges and sports bodies recognised by national federations and the Union Sports Ministry to comply with the advisory.
