Unity Promo Fest Boosts Tripura’s Global Tourism Profile: Minister Sushanta Chowdhury

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday said the ongoing Unity Promo Fest 2025 has played a crucial role in showcasing Tripura’s tourism potential on the global stage. The month-long festival, being held across multiple districts, has received an overwhelming public response.

Speaking at a press conference at Gitanjali Guest House, Chowdhury announced that the closing ceremony will take place on December 12 at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, featuring performances by renowned local artists and Bollywood playback singer Jubin Nautiyal. Tripura’s tourism brand ambassador and former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly will also attend the event.

The minister said the word “Unity” was added to this year’s title to strengthen the bond between the state’s diverse tribal and non-tribal communities. He noted that the festival has effectively showcased the culture, attire, cuisine, and heritage of Tripura’s indigenous communities before a global audience, elevating the fest into a cultural brand for the state.

For the December 12 event, VVIP, VIP, and General passes have been arranged, with general passes available at the Tourism Department’s main office (Shwet Mahal) until 5 PM on Thursday.

Chowdhury highlighted that while last year’s Promo Fest saw the participation of 78 tour operators from various states, this year 122 tour operators from 27 Indian states will arrive in Tripura. Operators from Thailand, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Malaysia are also scheduled to attend.

Their participation, he said, will help promote Tripura in international tourism markets and attract more foreign visitors. Citing recent Union Ministry of Tourism data, the minister stated that Tripura currently ranks second in the Northeast—after Sikkim—in foreign tourist arrivals.

He emphasized the need to further strengthen tourism infrastructure and improve hospitality, service quality, and transparency. The press conference was also attended by Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, Traffic SP Kanta Jangir, West Tripura SP Amit Pathak, and Tourism Director Prashant Badal Negi.
