Meghalaya Regularises 221 Health Workers, Clears Mental Health Rules
Dec 10, 2025
The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved the regularisation of 221 nurses and paramedical staff, ending years of uncertainty over their employment status.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said the decision grants formal confirmation to bonded nurses and paramedics recruited between 2008 and 2012, whose appointments had come under review following an earlier Cabinet directive. That directive had mandated the re-advertisement of government posts filled after 2007 if recruitment norms were suspected to have been violated.
These health workers were initially included in that category. However, after extensive consultations with the Health Department, discussions with the affected employees, and a thorough examination of official records, the government concluded that the recruitment process for these posts had followed all required procedures.
“The Cabinet has approved the confirmation of these appointments, and there is no need for fresh recruitment for these positions,” Sangma said in a social media statement.
The Cabinet also cleared key policy and administrative measures, including mental healthcare rules, land lease reforms, and matters related to judicial services.
