In a bold assertion, Bipin Debbarma, the state secretary of BJP and leader of its Janajati Morcha, declared that the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) is on the verge of losing its grip in Tripura. Speaking at a press conference in Agartala, Debbarma predicted that TMP's exit from the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) by 2026 is "almost inevitable."
The BJP leader attributed the weakening strength of TMP to mounting political pressure, which, according to him, has led to escalating attacks on BJP workers. "Tipra Motha supporters have been targeting BJP members in repeated incidents," he alleged, adding that this signaled the party’s declining influence.
Debbarma also announced plans for a major tribal rally on December 13, aimed at showcasing the growing support for the BJP among the tribal communities. The event, which will take place in front of Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala, is expected to attract thousands of tribal people from various districts, with over 5,000 attendees anticipated, he told reporters.
“The rally will send a strong message that the tribal people of Tripura now see the BJP as the most reliable political force in the state,” Debbarma said, adding that party observers have been appointed in every mandal to ensure smooth execution of the program.
The announcement comes as a challenge to TMP’s position in the state, suggesting that the BJP’s tribal outreach could alter the political landscape ahead of the next TTAADC elections.
