Goa Government Suspends Three Officials Over Lapses in Nightclub Fire Tragedy

The Goa Government has suspended three officials for alleged lapses in granting permissions to the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub, where a massive fire recently claimed several lives. The officials suspended are Dr. Shamila Montero of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, Director of Panchayats Siddhi Halarnkar, and Hadfade-Nagwa Panchayat secretary Raghuveer Bagkar.
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant confirmed that four staff members of the nightclub have been arrested in connection with the incident. Those taken into custody include Chief General Manager Rajiv Modak, Manager Vivek Singh, and employees Rajiv Singhania and Priyanshu Thakur. Arrest warrants have also been issued against the club’s owners, Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, while a Goa Police team is currently in Delhi to trace them. Local sarpanch Roshan Redkar remains detained for further questioning.
The state government has announced an ex-gratia compensation of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured in the fire. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved an additional relief of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire, including possible violations in safety norms and licensing procedures.
