NCB–CRPF Operation Busts Transnational Drug Ring, Seizes 5.9 kg Meth

In a joint operation near Aizawl, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) intercepted a major consignment of 5.9 kilograms of methamphetamine and arrested eight members of a transnational drug syndicate.

Among those arrested is Jabrul Hoque, a resident of Karimganj, Assam, identified as the kingpin of the network. Hoque is a habitual narcotics trafficker with three previous drug cases, including one registered at Dharmanagar Police Station in Tripura, in which he was currently out on bail.

According to preliminary investigation, the seized methamphetamine had been smuggled across the Indo-Myanmar border near Champhai and was being transported to Sonamura in Tripura, from where it was intended to be trafficked into Bangladesh.

To strengthen intelligence sharing and operational effectiveness in the Northeast, the NCB has recently expanded its regional presence by opening a new regional office in Guwahati, along with Zonal Units in Itanagar, Siliguri, and Agartala. Additionally, new Field Offices in Aizawl and Dimapur have been made fully functional.
