The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Guwahati Zonal Unit has dismantled an international drug trafficking network operating across Myanmar, Manipur, and Assam. Based on specific intelligence, NCB teams tracked a heroin consignment being moved through forest routes in Manipur and transported via motorboats along the Barak River to bypass regular security checks.
On Tuesday, officers intercepted a motorboat near Silchar and arrested two individuals. A detailed search of the vessel led to the recovery of more than six kilograms of high-grade heroin, packed in 530 soap cases and concealed beneath bamboo layers. The seized contraband is valued at around Rs 12.5 crore in the illicit market.
The operation was carried out jointly with the CRPF and with crucial support from the Silchar Police, marking a significant breakthrough against cross-border drug syndicates exploiting remote riverine routes.
