Huge Python Sparks Panic in Charilam’s Puranbari locality
Dec 02, 2025
A large python created panic among residents of the Puranbari area on Monday night after it was spotted lying beside a road near the forest range office. The snake was first seen by a few locals returning home from the market, who immediately shouted for help. Their calls quickly drew villagers to the spot near the pond of local resident Binoy Karmakar.
The incident occurred close to the Charrilam Forest Range Office, and forest officials were promptly informed. Upon receiving the alert, Beat Officer Sukanta Das rushed to the location with a team of forest workers. The team safely rescued the python and placed it inside a sack.
Speaking to the media, Beat Officer said that the Puranbari area lies adjacent to a wildlife sanctuary, which is why animals—especially pythons and other endangered species—often stray into human settlements. “This is quite normal in this region. We will release the python into the forests of Sipahijala Zoo to ensure its safety,” he added.
According to villagers and forest officials, the python weighed more than 100 kilograms.
